Leaders urged to preserve Lt. Gen. Lokech’s legacy

Leaders and family members have been urged to preserve the legacy of the late Lt. General Paul Lokech by ensuring that future generations understand his contribution to Uganda.

Speaking during the fifth memorial prayer anniversary of Lt. General Lokech at Paipir Lubele South Luna Parish in Pader Town Council, Pader District, the 5th Infantry Division Commander, General Keith Katungi, said the annual remembrance is important because Lokech was a remarkable military leader whose contribution should not be forgotten.

Katungi said the memorial should not be viewed as idolising the late general, but rather as an opportunity for those who knew him and the country at large to remember the values and service he offered.

He also commended Lokech’s family, particularly his wife, for continuing to attend the annual memorial prayers, saying their presence helps keep his memory alive.

Katungi said it is important for Lokech’s children to grow up understanding the importance of their father and the contribution he made to the country.

Pader District LCV Chairperson Alfred Akena said the district leadership would support the family in addressing issues that fall within the responsibility of local government.

Akena said the family, including Lokech’s children and siblings, has a future that deserves support, pledging that local leaders would work with them to ensure they receive the necessary assistance.

He also thanked the family, military officers, local leaders and other mourners for maintaining the spirit of remembering the late general and urged them to continue keeping his family in their hearts.

His remarks echoed those of Bishop Wilson Kitara, who urged people to protect the legacy of their sons and children, saying the values left behind by those who served should be passed on to future generations.

Bishop Kitara said preserving such legacies is also a way of protecting the values entrusted to families and communities by God.

The memorial brought together military leaders, family members, friends and other mourners to remember Lt. General Lokech, who died in 2021.
