Leaders of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Pader District have pledged to work together in mobilising support for Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba while urging Ugandans to reject politics based on tribe and religion.
The leaders made the remarks on Saturday during a PLU endorsement rally at the Mayor’s Garden in Pader Town Council, where supporters gathered to endorse Gen. Kainerugaba for the 2031 presidential election.
David Kabanda, the chief guest, the MP for Kasambya County, Mubende District, and also the national coordinator in the Chairman’s Office of PLU urged Ugandans to support leaders based on their ability to serve the country rather than their ethnic or religious background.
He described the PLU as non-partisan, non-denominational and non-sectarian, warning against individuals who use tribal and religious differences to divide communities.
He also urged residents to continue supporting Christopher Komakech, MP for Aruu County, whom he described as a consistent supporter of Gen. Kainerugaba and President Yoweri Museveni.
Pader District Woman MP and NRM chairperson Lowila CD Oketayot said NRM leaders were committed to nurturing the PLU and working with its members in unity and harmony.
She has previously described the PLU as a child of the NRM, saying it would strengthen the ruling party rather than threaten its future.
Pader District LC V Chairperson Alfred Akena welcomed the large turnout at the rally but called for clarity on how the PLU and NRM would converge politically.
Akena said supporters needed to understand how the two organisations would work together, while expressing support for the endorsement campaign.
Christopher Komakech, MP for Aruu County and Pader PLU coordinator, said the rally also conveyed the region’s determination not to return to instability and insecurity.
He recalled the suffering experienced by families during the insurgency in northern Uganda and said residents were committed to preserving peace.
The rally brought together political leaders and supporters from Pader and other parts of Acholi.
