Teamwork, accountability key to better service delivery, Pader leaders tell civil servants

Pader District leaders have called on civil servants to embrace teamwork, accountability, and professionalism, saying the values are critical in improving service delivery to the community.

Speaking during an emergency meeting with head teachers at Paipir Primary School, Pader District LCV Chairperson Alfred Akena said effective leadership requires cooperation among public servants and a commitment to delivering results.

Akena said his administration was focused on addressing challenges that have affected the performance of the district, including administrative weaknesses, delayed promotions, payroll complaints, and failure by some officers to execute their responsibilities.

He said some challenges within the district had been caused by negligence of duty and incompetence, warning that corrective measures would be taken through proper procedures.

Akena emphasized that public offices must be managed professionally, saying leaders must make decisions based on facts, documentation, and established regulations.

The LCV chairperson also called on civil servants to embrace delegation and cooperation, saying institutions cannot perform well when responsibilities are concentrated in the hands of a few individuals.

Supporting the call for accountability, George Okot Pa’ Adonga, the councilor for the workers’ representative in Pader District Local Government, said public servants must understand that leadership positions are entrusted to them because of their qualifications, experience, and ability to deliver.

He said workers should expect support when they perform their duties correctly, but warned that he would not defend misconduct.

The workers’ representative cautioned against divisions, resentment, and conflicts among staff, saying teamwork is necessary for institutions to achieve their objectives.

Adonga further urged civil servants to follow proper procedures when handling grievances and avoid taking matters into their own hands.

Both leaders encouraged public servants to focus on results, saying performance should be measured by the impact of their work on the lives of citizens.

The leaders said improved service delivery in Pader will depend on cooperation between political leaders, technical officers, and frontline workers.

The meeting attended by the Amos Assimwe the RDC Pader, Francis Olwoch the DIS, Azim Okello the district sports officer, Margret Alanyo the DEO among other people including the primary school head teachers.
