About 200 young women in Ogom Sub-county, Pader District, have expressed gratitude after completing a skills training programme sponsored by Makerere University and Johns Hopkins University through the MHUJU Global Fund.

Speaking on 15 October 2026, trainee Anek Pamela expressed joy at the skills she had acquired, including making different types of bread to promote self-reliance.

She said the programme also included HIV testing and awareness sessions on preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Pamela encouraged fellow trainees to put their skills to use and urged other young women who had missed the opportunity to seek information about future training intakes.

Acan Florence, the women councillor for Otong Parish and secretary for education in Ogom Sub-county, praised MHUJU Global for empowering young women and called for more training opportunities.

However, Ogom Sub-county Community Development Officer Okot Santo Sam confirmed that 50 of the 200 trainees would not receive start-up capital because they had not completed the training.
