Agago to arrest children found loitering as district launches school attendance campaign

Agago District authorities have announced plans to arrest children found loitering in markets, trading centres and other public places during school hours as part of a new campaign aimed at improving school attendance.

The campaign follows a directive by the Agago District LCV Chairperson Wilson Otto, calling on all children aged between six and 18 years to return to school by September 14, 2026.

Otto says the district will not only focus on the September 14th deadline but will continue monitoring school attendance at the beginning of every school term for the next three years.

Speaking to our reporter by phone, Otto said the move follows concerns over the high number of children who are out of school.

He said children who remain outside school without valid reasons will be identified and compelled to return to learning.

The district chairperson says the campaign is intended to make school attendance a community responsibility where parents, local leaders and residents ensure children remain in school.
