Agago to arrest loitering children in school attendance campaign

Agago District authorities have announced plans to arrest children found loitering in markets, trading centres and other public places during school hours as part of a new campaign aimed at improving school attendance.

The campaign follows a directive by Agago District LCV Chairperson Wilson Otto, calling on all children aged between six and 18 to return to school by September 14, 2026.

Otto said the district would not only focus on the September 14 deadline but would continue monitoring school attendance at the beginning of every school term for the next three years.

Speaking to our reporter by phone, Otto said the move follows concerns over the high number of children who are out of school.

He said children who remain out of school without valid reasons will be identified and compelled to return to school.

The district chairperson said the campaign is intended to make school attendance a community responsibility, with parents, local leaders and residents working together to ensure children remain in school.
