Officials and game teachers from schools and the community gathered for a specialised two-day training session aimed at enhancing sports management across Pader District.
The training focused on building local capacity, ensuring that school and community-based sports associations are properly structured, documented, and led by qualified officials.
Participants received training kits to signify their readiness to manage local sporting activities.
Alfred Okello Azim, the District Sports Officer, emphasised that the program aims to identify and nurture athletic talent while covering 75% of the district’s schools and clubs.
He encouraged participants to use the skills gained to promote fitness, expand female participation in sports, and prepare the next generation of sports leaders.
Emmanuel Nyeko Oliga, a trainer at the session, highlighted the practical aspects of the training.
“This program is designed to ensure that officials are well-informed and confident when managing sports activities,” he said.
Oliga emphasised the importance of grassroots development in athletics, stating that the Federation, in collaboration with the National Council of Sports, is committed to reviving athletic activities from the community level.
Lalam Monica Odong, headteacher of Paipir Primary School, which hosted the training, expressed her appreciation for the initiative. “We are honored to host this first-of-its-kind training in our school,” she said.
She said it is crucial for teachers and students to learn from qualified trainers adding that she is confident this training will strengthen sports leadership across the district.
The combined efforts of the district sports office, local schools, and trainers like Oliga aim to build a sustainable sports ecosystem, improve athlete development, and ensure that officials are well-prepared to manage activities at both school and community levels.
