AFSS rewards 85 Staff, 12 students and management team for outstanding 2025 performance

Archbishop Flynn Secondary School (AFSS) has recognised and rewarded 85 technical and support staff, 12 students, members of the management team, and the school administrator, Fr. Dr. Peter Paul Rom Abim, for their outstanding contribution to the institution’s academic success and administration.

The AFSS Awards 2025 were held at the school dining hall on Saturday, July 18, 2026, and formed part of the school’s celebrations for excellence in the 2025 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations.

According to the school administration, the cash rewards ranged from UGX 1 million for the best performing English teacher at O’Level to UGX 100,000 for other outstanding teachers, support staff, and students.

The ceremony also saw the school management team honoured for their leadership and coordination, which school leaders said had played a key role in maintaining high academic standards and discipline.

In a special recognition, Fr. Dr. Peter Paul Rom Abim, the school administrator, was awarded for his tireless day-to-day administration of the institution and his commitment to the growth and smooth running of the school.

The celebrations also featured the commissioning of the school’s newly acquired brass band, which was officially launched by the school director.

The brass band, acquired at a cost of UGX 51.5 million, was made possible through support from Friends of AFSS based in Florida, United States of America.

During the commissioning, the director named the band “St. Joseph the Worker Brass Band”, saying it would help nurture students’ talents, promote discipline, and enrich school activities through music.

Speaking during the ceremony, Ambassador Olara Otunnu congratulated the award recipients and urged students to value education as a tool for transforming their lives and communities. 

He said schools such as AFSS continue to play a vital role in shaping responsible citizens and future leaders.

Richard Ojok Olal, the Speaker of Pader District Local Government, praised the school for recognising not only teachers and students but also support staff and administrators. 

He said honouring those who work behind the scenes strengthens morale and encourages greater commitment to service.

Olal also commended the school administration for investing in both academic excellence and institutional development, saying the recognition of Fr. Dr. Peter Paul Rom Abim reflected the impact of dedicated leadership on the performance of learners and staff.

The event attracted school administrators, teachers, students, parents, alumni, and invited guests, who applauded the awardees for their hard work, dedication, and service to the school community.

Speakers noted that the impressive performance in the 2025 national examinations was a result of the collective efforts of teachers, support staff, students, parents, and the school management.

They added that the awards were intended to motivate both staff and learners to continue pursuing excellence, discipline, and teamwork in all aspects of school life.

School leaders expressed optimism that the awards would inspire even better performance in future examinations and further strengthen the spirit of unity and service within the AFSS community.

The ceremony was held alongside celebrations marking the school’s continued academic achievements, the growth of its co-curricular programmes, and other important milestones in the life of the institution.
