The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) in Pader District says it is targeting more than 50,000 signatures from registered voters in support of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s 2031 presidential bid.
Justine Ocen, the PLU Secretary for Publicity in Pader District, said the organisation had so far collected approximately 30,000 signatures through its structures across the district.
Ocen made the remarks during a mobilisation meeting held at Sky Lounge along EY Road in Pader Town Council on Thursday, 29 October 2026.
He said the number had increased from approximately 25,000 recorded a week earlier, according to registration returns from sub-counties and town councils.
He said registration was still ongoing in all sub-counties and town councils, with coordinators working alongside executive committee members to mobilise residents at parish and village levels.
Ocen encouraged residents who had not yet registered to contact PLU leaders in their respective areas. He added that the registration books would be collected during the district rally on 31 October before being returned to local structures to allow the exercise to continue.
He said the district hoped to exceed 50,000 signatures by the time the registration exercise was completed.
Christopher Komakech, the Member of Parliament for Aruu County and PLU coordinator in Pader District, said the 31 October gathering would provide an opportunity for residents to demonstrate their support for Muhoozi’s anticipated presidential bid.
Komakech said the rally would attract national PLU leaders, ministers, Members of Parliament and supporters from across the district.
Meanwhile, Charles Ray Okwir, the Secretary for the PLU Elderly League in Pader District, said elderly members were helping to explain the organisation’s objectives and political direction to younger people.
Okwir said elders played an important role in guiding young people through their historical experiences and helping them understand the political developments taking place in the country.
Ocen also revealed that a select committee had been established during the 29 October meeting to coordinate mobilisation and other activities ahead of the district rally.
Explaining the organisation’s identity, Ocen described PLU as a non-profit civic organisation chaired by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, which brings together Ugandans interested in discussing challenges affecting the country, including corruption and poor service delivery.
He said the PLU was working in partnership with the National Resistance Movement (NRM), which he described as the political party to which its members belonged.
Ocen said the registration books would later be consolidated at Acholi sub-region level in Gulu before the information was submitted to the national leadership in Kampala.
