Lira Diocese will organise the 2027 celebrations of Blessed Daudi Okelo and Jildo Irwa at Wipolo Martyrs’ Shrine in Paimol, Agago District, on 20 October 2027.
Archbishop Raphael P’mony Wokorach of Gulu Archdiocese announced the development during a gathering at the shrine, saying Lira Diocese had also accepted responsibility for organising the 2027 youth pilgrimage.
Archbishop Wokorach thanked the diocese for accepting the two responsibilities, describing the arrangement as an important contribution to preparations for the upcoming Church events.
During the gathering, the Vicar General of Lira Diocese was asked to receive the responsibility on behalf of Bishop Santo Linus Wanok.
The annual celebration at Wipolo honours Blessed Daudi Okelo and Jildo Irwa, two young catechists remembered for their commitment to the Catholic faith and their martyrdom in Paimol.
The 2027 celebrations will bring pilgrims together at the shrine to commemorate the two martyrs, while Lira Diocese will also take the lead in organising the youth pilgrimage scheduled for the same year.
