Kole District Chairperson Hon. Engineer Moses Oteng has issued a stern warning to local leaders and district officials accused of undermining government programmes through corruption, demanding bribes and diverting funds meant to benefit ordinary citizens.
Oteng said his administration would not tolerate individuals exploiting government initiatives, particularly the Parish Development Model (PDM) and other poverty alleviation programmes intended to improve household incomes and livelihoods.
The district chairperson made the remarks on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, while addressing mourners at the funeral of the late Auma Postina, wife of Awobe B Village LC1 Chairperson Mr. Mateo Awany, in Awobe Ode B Village, Adellogo Parish, Okwerodot Sub-County.
He expressed concern over reports that some Parish Development Committees (PDCs) and PDM leaders were allegedly demanding bribes from beneficiaries before allowing them to access government support.
Oteng warned that those involved in such practices would be held accountable, saying he no longer want to hear complaints of corruption undermining service delivery in Kole District.
The district chairperson explained that government programmes were designed to support vulnerable households, improve their economic circumstances and enable communities to participate in development.
However, he regretted that some individuals entrusted with implementing the programmes were allegedly putting personal interests ahead of the public good by demanding money from intended beneficiaries.
He urged residents to report any cases of bribery, extortion or mismanagement directly to his office to enable authorities to investigate and take appropriate action against those responsible.
Oteng also cited previous arrests of district officials over alleged misappropriation of funds intended for beneficiaries under the government restocking programme, warning that public resources must be protected from abuse.
He called on community members to remain vigilant and refuse to remain silent when leaders or officials demand illegal payments in exchange for access to government assistance.
The chairperson’s warning comes amid continued public concern over the implementation of government poverty alleviation programmes, which are intended to improve household incomes and expand economic opportunities at the grassroots.
Oteng has previously spoken out against corruption in the district. During his swearing-in, he reportedly made it clear that his administration would not provide a safe haven for individuals engaged in corrupt practices.
His latest remarks reinforce his stated commitment to accountability and transparency in the management of public resources in Kole District.
Residents will now be looking to see how the district leadership and relevant authorities respond to the reported allegations, investigate complaints and ensure that government support reaches its intended beneficiaries without illegal deductions or demands for bribes.
