A family dispute has erupted in Gweng Lik, Koch Parish, Lunyuiri Sub-county, Pader District, following allegations that a soldier threatened his father and cut down trees that had been preserved for years.
Okello Paul Okot, 60, said his son, Odoch Christopher, visited his home at 3pm on 27 October 2026, demanding that he remove beehives and banana plants intended for household consumption.
Okello alleged that his son had also cut down trees he had protected for years. He appealed to local leaders for protection, saying he feared for his safety.
Onono Francis, the LC1 chairperson of Gweng Lik, said Okello’s complaints appeared genuine, alleging that Odoch had cut down trees without consulting his father.
Onono said his attempts to engage Odoch had failed to resolve the matter.
However, Odoch denied threatening anyone, saying he was clearing trees from his garden to prepare the land for cultivation during the rainy season.
Efforts to reach Lunyuiri Sub-county official Charles Odongtoo for comment were unsuccessful.
