With the onset of the rainy season, candidates who were successfully shortlisted for interviews as display officers faced significant challenges due to the poor condition of roads while turning up for interviews held on 15th April 2025 at the Electoral Commission compound in Pader district.
According to sources, the roads were muddy, with most sections full of potholes, causing transportation delays and difficulties.
Out of the 409 shortlisted candidates, only 315 turned up for the interviews, which began at 9:57 AM.
Okello Sadam Hussein, the Subcounty Election Officer for Pader town council, attributed the low turnout to poor road conditions and traffic issues. He noted that candidates traveling on motorcycles, especially those carrying multiple passengers, were stopped by traffic officers. He also mentioned that some candidates chose to boycott the interviews due to the high number of shortlisted applicants.
The Electoral Commission is set to conduct the display exercise of the National Voters Register from Thursday, 17th April to Thursday, 8th May 2025 at designated polling stations across the country.
Pader district has a total of 215 polling stations, with an estimated 82,298 voters according to data from the 2021 general elections.
