Residents of Ginnery East Cell in Pandwong Division, Kitgum municipality on Wednesday woke up to the sad news of the death of a 25 years old man who committed suicide by hanging.
The deceased, Mr. Regan Odongpiny is said to have had series of misunderstandings with his lover until Tuesday when he decided to end his life. His body was found hanging inside his house on Wednesday morning.
Mr. Ocitti Kennedy Opwonya, the LCI Chairperson of neighboring Ginnery West Cell who was at the scene during press time said the deceased had attempted to end his life on at least three occasions.
Mr. Ocitti revealed that Odongpiny had taken two days on a drinking spree and as he went home on Tuesday evening, he intimated to his colleagues his intention to end his life due to unbearable stress his girlfriend has been subjecting him to. Mr. Ocitti asked locals to seek counseling instead of resorting to suicide or violent means of quenching their anger.
Efforts to reach to Mr. Justin Otto, the Chairperson LCI of Ginnery East Cell where the incident happened, were futile during press time.
Hajj Walire Marijan, the Kitgum Deputy RDC rebuked ‘cowards’ who resort to suicide when they are challenged in life and asked cultural and religious leaders to intervene through counseling and prayers for this vice to stop.
Odongpiny’s body was on Wednesday morning taken to Kitgum Government hospital mortuary for postmortem.
