A two-year-old child has died after an incident involving a fallen tree in Omuny Lee village, Aringa parish, Te-Nam subcounty, Pader district.
According to the PRO of the Aswa East Region, IP Joe Oloya, on January 14, 2025, at around 8:00 AM, the suspect, Mr. Okidi Charles, was cutting trees while three young children played in the compound. As the tree was about to fall, the children approached the area where he was working.
The victim has been identified as Kumagum Ramsey, a resident of Omuny Lee village in Aringa parish, Te-Nam subcounty, Pader district.
IP Joe Oloya explained that as the children neared the area where Mr. Okidi Charles was cutting the tree, it unfortunately fell in their direction. One of the children was struck and killed, while the other two survived.
The case of negligence and recklessness was reported on January 15, 2025, by Akech Biola at 9:40 AM at Puranga Police Station in Pader district.
IP Oloya Joe stated that the body of the deceased was taken to Pajule Health Center IV on January 15, 2025, for a postmortem before being returned home for burial arrangements.
He also noted that blood was observed coming from the deceased’s nose, but there were no injuries on other parts of the body.
It is alleged that the tree, which was freshly cut, was approximately 70 meters away from the home and fell, causing the tragic incident.
IP Joe Oloya has appealed to the public to remain calm as investigation teams have already commenced their inquiry into the incident, which appears to have been unintentional.
