Mpigi Chairperson meets traders ahead of temporary market relocation

Today, District Chairperson Mr Simon Peter Kawuki met traders to discuss their relocation to a temporary market ahead of the commencement of construction works for the new modern market.

During the engagement, the chairperson listened to traders’ concerns regarding the relocation process and reassured them of the district’s commitment to ensuring a smooth, transparent, and well-coordinated transition.

To address the outstanding issues, Hon. Kawuki directed that a stakeholders’ meeting be held this Friday, bringing together the Mpigi Town Council Executive Committee, led by LCIII Chairperson Ms Faridah Ndagire Ssempala, Principal Township Officer Mr Raymond Mutaawe and his technical team, Hebron Investments Ltd (the contractor), and representatives of the traders to resolve all pending matters before the relocation exercise.

The chairperson further directed that all traders who missed the previous registration exercise be re-registered before Thursday this week to ensure that every eligible trader is captured and considered during the relocation process.

Following the meeting, Hon. Kawuki inspected the temporary market structures alongside district leaders, Mpigi Town Council officials, traders’ representatives, and technical officers to assess their readiness. He expressed satisfaction with the progress, noting that the facilities are in good condition and will enable traders to continue their businesses uninterrupted during the construction period.

The Shs13 billion Mpigi Central Market redevelopment project will be implemented by Hebron Investments Ltd and is expected to be completed within 12 months. Upon completion, the modern market will provide improved trading facilities, enhance business operations, and contribute significantly to the socio-economic transformation of Mpigi District.
