An 18-year-old woman and a P3 pupil of Opoke Primary School was hacked to death with a panga by her husband on Tuesday morning. The suspect has only been identified as Onek. The deceased, Aketowang Prossy, was a resident of Opoke village, Madikiloch parish, Padibe West subcounty, Lamwo district.
It is alleged that Aketowang and the suspect had been living together as husband and wife in Lubiri village, Abakadyak parish, Aceba subcounty, until the night of February 24, 2025, when they had a misunderstanding. That night, according to police, the deceased called her mother to inform her that her husband was threatening to kill her.
Fearing for her life, Aketowang returned to her mother, Ms. Laker Irene, in Opoke East village on February 25, 2025, to seek help.
Onek reportedly followed her to her mother’s home at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, making continuous threats to kill her if she refused to return to his home in Lubiri village, Abakadyak parish.
According to the Acting Police Spokesperson for the Aswa East Region, IP Oloya Joe, the mother of the deceased left the two at home, only to return and find her daughter lying dead inside the house.
IP Oloya stated that the crime scene has been examined and documented, and statements have been recorded from relevant witnesses. He added that the body of the deceased was transported to Padibe Health Centre for a postmortem examination.
The Aswa East Regional Police spokesperson further revealed that the suspect is still on the run and urged the public to assist in his arrest if spotted.
