These motorcycles were procured using an Agricultural Grant at a cost of 71 million Ugandan shillings to support extension staff in boosting agriculture across the four sub-counties of Acaba, Abok, Iceme, and Loro.
While handing over the motorcycles, Patrick Ocen Ebong, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner of Oyam, cautioned the officers against diverting them for other activities, emphasising that they must be used for their intended purpose. He urged them to utilise the motorcycles to train farmers at the grassroots level.
Deputy Chief Administrative Officer of Oyam, Joel Augustine Ojedroa Oyoa, urged the extension staff who received the motorcycles to use them to enhance agricultural mechanisation by training farmers in the adoption of new technologies.
He stated that the motorcycles were provided to support agricultural extension workers in delivering services across the sub counties.
Cox Albino Ogwal, the District Production Officer of Oyam, noted that the guidelines permit the annual procurement of motorcycles for staff to enable them to reach farmers at the grassroots level.
Ogwal appealed to the beneficiaries to use the motorcycles responsibly.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Samuel Omodo, an extension worker in charge of the veterinary department at Abok Sub-County, expressed optimism about improving agricultural production in the area. He assured officials that this initiative would lead to better outcomes for the community members.
