In a bid to boost education standards, Otwal subcounty has announced plans to reward top-performing headteachers and teachers in 2025.
This announcement was made during a donation event held at the Otwal subcounty headquarters on February 19, 2025. Geoffrey Ronald Opio, the Subcounty Assistant Secretary (SAS) of Otwal, emphasised the importance of strengthening the education sector. Since his transfer to Otwal, Opio has convened regular education conferences with headteachers to improve learning outcomes.
He urged parents to prioritise their children’s education, stressing that education remains the key to success in Uganda.
Balam Angim, the LC3 Chairperson for Otwal subcounty, noted that this recognition will not be a one-time event, as the subcounty is committed to continuously supporting top-performing pupils and educators.
Nixson Ogwal, Secretary for Education and Sports, attributed poor performance in some schools to parents’ reluctance to fulfill their responsibilities. He urged pupils to remain humble, concentrate on their education, and avoid negative influences for a brighter future.
Casimiro Olobo, Headteacher of Ader Primary School, encouraged parents of children who passed in second grade not to lose hope in paying their school fees. He emphasised that education unlocks opportunities, enabling a child from a poor background to become a president, doctor, or other prestigious professional.
Brian Opoka, a pupil who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, praised Otwal subcounty leaders and civil servants for their commitment to education. He encouraged fellow pupils to remain focused and dedicated to their studies.
Parents who spoke to Shine FM expressed gratitude for Otwal subcounty’s continued support, which has greatly benefited their children’s education.
This initiative highlights Otwal subcounty’s dedication to improving education outcomes and recognising the hard work of educators. By rewarding top-performing headteachers and teachers, the subcounty aims to motivate educators and promote academic excellence.
