Today, 20 out of 288 candidates failed to attend the scheduled interviews for police constable recruitment in Oyam District.
Speaking to journalists at Anyeke Primary School, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Region police spokesperson, stated that although 288 candidates initially expressed interest in joining the force, only 268 turned up for the interview on 28th April 2025. No communication was received from the 20 absent candidates. Additionally, one candidate was disqualified during the document verification stage, as he arrived without any academic documents or a national identity card.
SP Okema emphasised the importance of key factors such as time management during recruitment exercises. He urged parents to resist bribery, reiterating that police recruitment is not for sale. He warned that anyone caught participating in bribery, whether offering or accepting, would face arrest.
Benson Dilla Oyuku, the Oyam District Chairperson, urged the recruitment officials to base their selections on merit. He also called on the recruits to fulfil their duties to protect and develop Uganda. Retired Rev. Col. Johnson Patrick Otim, a parent of one of the candidates, expressed hope for his daughter’s success. He revealed that he had supported her application from the start, bringing her to submit her documents and now accompanying her for the interview, confident that she meets the required criteria.
According to the roadmap for these interviews, all candidates whose names appeared on the shortlist are invited to report to the designated interview and recruitment centres by 7:00 AM sharp on the specified dates. The process began today, 28th April 2025, in Oyam District at Anyeke Primary School. The schedule for the remaining interviews is as follows:
