Speaking to our reporter yesterday, Appolo Oree, one of the aspirants who had previously expressed interest in running for the Oyam North Constituency Member of Parliament seat, announced that he has stepped down from the NRM flag race and will instead contest as an independent candidate under the NRM umbrella. He stated that his decision was influenced by various reasons.

When asked whether financial constraints were a major challenge preventing him from picking nomination forms, Mr. Oree disagreed, asserting that he has plenty of money.

However, he explained that his decision was driven by dissatisfaction with the way the NRM operates in Oyam, which is why he chose to run as an independent candidate affiliated with the party.

This comes at a time when the NRM nomination fees for Members of Parliament have been increased to 3 million, causing many aspirants to leave the NRM and cross over to other political parties.

Others are withdrawing from the race altogether because they do not have the financial capacity to raise the required amount for nomination in the upcoming NRM primaries.
