The Most Rev. Dr Steven Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu Mboowa, Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, has called on the government to establish a national insurance system to support Ugandans who are currently unable to access one. He also strongly condemned the level of corruption in the country and urged believers to unite in the fight against this vice.

He made these remarks during his Easter sermon at All Saints’ Cathedral, Nakasero, Kampala, where many congregants had gathered to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

“Let us continue to pray for our country and also take time to check the voters’ register to ensure your name is there. If you discover the name of someone who has died, please report it — we do not want deceased persons voting. It is our responsibility, so let’s take action. May you go with God, for He has gone before you. Let us also stand together in fighting corruption, which is a sign of selfishness and greed,” he said.

The Archbishop also reminded believers to imitate Christ by dying to sin. In addition, he highlighted the need to expand the parking area and pursue other development projects, including one aimed at supporting the servants of God at All Saints’ Cathedral.

The Bishop of Namirembe Diocese, the Rt Rev. Moses Banja, in his Easter message, congratulated believers for successfully completing the 40-day fast and urged them to remain faithful while also rejecting corruption.

“Thank you to all who participated in the fasting. Corruption can be defeated if we work together,” he said.

He went on to remind believers to remain vigilant about diseases such as Mpox, Ebola, HIV, among others. His sermon was based on Philippians 3:7–10.

The Kabaka’s message was delivered by the Speaker of the Buganda Lukiiko, Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule, who encouraged people to continue working hard and not to abandon coffee farming.

The Mayor of Rubaga, who was also in attendance, expressed his gratitude to the bishop for enlightening the congregation through his preaching.

The Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, His Grace the Most Rev. Paul Ssemogerere, during his sermon at Rubaga Cathedral in Kampala, urged Catholic parents not to neglect their responsibilities.

“I am aware that children can be challenging in many ways, but let us give them hope, because they are the ones who will carry on our faith in the future,” he said.

The President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, joined other leaders in delivering an Easter message to believers and the nation at large.

“Greetings and happy Resurrection Day of the Son of God. I commend the security forces for safeguarding and protecting the people who took part in processions to mark the crucifixion.

“The message of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) is that our people are free to nurture their spirituality, which helps guard against the temptations of evil deeds such as murder, corruption, and lying.

“We also emphasise the importance of hard work in the four key sectors: commercial agriculture, industry, services, and ICT. This is the path to creating jobs and wealth for households. It is the correct formula for building prosperity,” he said.
