School with 513 pupils shares one pit-latrine with four teachers

A goverment aided primary school with a total number of 513 pupils’ enrollment and four teachers in Kasese District is operating with hardships.

Nyamutswa Primary School in Kyarumba Sub-County Kasese district is reportedly having one payrolled teacher, Kasese Guide Radio has learnt.

The school with an enrollment of about 513 pupils also study in temporary structures and share one pit-latrine with teachers.

Mr. Jackson Baluku Mughuruka, the Kyarumba Sub-County Chairperson told the district boss, Mr. Erifaz Muhindi Bukombi yesterday during his official visit to the area.

Mughuruka said the head teacher who is payrolled is being assisted by four volunteers after the posted teachers by government have never reported for duty since the term begun.

Mr. Daniel Kisembo, the Zonal leader in Kyalhumba decried understaffing at various primary schools versus the increasing number of learners, asking government to prioritize hard to reach allowances.

Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi pledged to make a follow-up about the concerns through the education department.

He urged proprietors of schools to allow learners sit for end of year examination despite financial challenges encountered by their parents and guardians.
