Repatriated Congolese return back to Uganda

Reports last evening indicated that the Congolese Refugees who were repatriated to their Domene village in the Democratic Republic of Congo after a suspected rebel attack by the ADF, have returned to Uganda hours later.About 130 refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo were led to the Catholic shrine in Kabuyiri in the Diocese of Kasese after reported gun shots during a reported attack by the operators of the Allied Democratic Forces said to have applied machetes to kill some innocent people.

Mr. Selevest Mapoze, the local council three chairperson for Mpondwe-Lhubiriha town council in Kasese district confirmed the information and said some refugees have sought refuge with their relatives, individually in rented rooms and at Kabuyiri Catholic Shrine.

He said whereas Uganda will keep friendly and accommodative to refugees, declaration and registration of refugees should be emphasized by the local community members and leaders. Mr. Mapoze speaking….

Ms. Martina Masika, a refugee at Kabuyiri catholic shrine said they decided to return after reports indicated that some local community members had been abducted by armed polyglot men in military and civilian fatigue. Ms. Masika speaking……

Some Congolese interviewed by Kasese Guide radio said whereas their security forces intended to block them from crossing to Uganda as gunshots and killings started on Sunday evening, they forced themselves into the hands of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces who led them to the Catholic shrine in Kabuyiri in Mpondwe-Lhubiriha town council in Kasese district.
