Confirmed gov’t withdraws support from KMH until investor is found

The Ministry of health has reaffirmed her previous position to withdraw government support from Kilembe Mines Hospital in Kasese district, Kasese Guide Radio has learnt.

In a letter dated January 31st said to have been sent and received by the chairperson of the Parliamentary committee on health yesterday, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Minister of Health says Kilembe Mines hospital is situated along River Nyamwamba catchment that has a history of repeated strong floods which do not allow reinstating healthy facility until the challenge is addressed.

In the said letter that Kasese Guide Radio obtained a copy, Dr. Aceng said the repeated devastating floods witnessed on May 1st 2013, May 5th 2014 and most recently on 7th May 2020 and 10th 2020, can only be dealt with when President Museveni as pledged; succeeds in having a viable investor to revamp both the mines and the hospital.

The Kasese Municipal Mayor, His Worship Chance Kahindo like the area Member of Parliament, Hon. Ferigo Kambale, declined to comment over the reported letter from the Minister they said they had not read about and that they were focusing on the Parliamentary committee’s report to the House next week.

In an interview with Kasese Guide Radio this morning, Hon. Robert Centenary confirmed that the Ministry of health reaffirms upgrading Rukoki health center four to a General Hospital and that the Prime Minister’s office had earmarked one billion shillings to the UPDF engineering Brigade this financial year for the construction works.

He also said the letter had indicated that the Ministry of health plans to construct a health three in Bulembia Division to increase access to Primary Health Care services to the catchment population of Kilembe mines hospital.

According to Dr. Aceng, the current Primary Health Care funds budgeted for Kilembe Mines hospital will go to support patients as Rukoki hospital. END
