Last batch of Rwenzururu royal guards arrives in Kasese

There was prolonged excitement that paralyzed business in Kasese Municipality as the former accused persons of the 2016 Obuhikira palace attack arrived in Kasese district. Banya-Rwenzururu…..

The excitement by the Rwenzururu Kingdom subjects above was triggered by the arrival of their colleagues after the Director of Public Prosecution on Tuesday dropped all criminal charges against the Rwenzururu King His Majesty Charles Wesley Mumbere and more than 200 co-accused.

They arrived in the district aboard the UPDF buses and welcomed by the Kasese Resident District Commissioner, Lt. Joe Walunsimbi before they were led to Rwenzori square for the official welcoming function

It however took time for the Rt. Hon. Joseph Kule Muranga, the Kingdom Premier who was using a police patrol pickup siren to convince the excited crowd, some of whom shed tears of joy on seeing their relatives and friends, to relocate to Rwenzori square where the public welcome was to take place. It was not until the Kasese Resident District Commissioner ordered the bus convoy to relocate to Rwenzori Square that the crowd followed.

Hon. Florence Kabugho, the Kasese district woman Member of Parliament expressed happiness for the release and arrival of the former accused persons she asked the community members to accord support after years in prison. Hon. Florence speaking……

The Central Division NRM chairperson in Kasese Municipality, Mr. Selevano Mulhondi called for a warm welcome to each of the colleagues released, adding that their arrival call for massive and but focused celebrations. Mr. Mulhondi speaking…….

The accused had been facing charges ranging from murder, attempted murder, treason and aggravated robbery that culminated into the attack by security on the Obuhikira palace in Kasese in 216.
