Suspected saboteurs of irrigation operation in Kasese to be arrested

Police may have to prepare for more detention space after Lt. Joe Walunsimbi, the Kasese Resident District Commissioner ordered for the arrest of anyone intending to disrupt the operations of the Muhokya mini-irrigation scheme in Muhokya town council.

The Rutooke based mini-irrigation scheme has of recent had administrative gaps reportedly forced by the old leadership that has not only been blamed for allegedly blocking water, threatening some farmers leaned to the new farmers’ executive committee but also gone to court to contest the election of the current irrigation leadership.

Speaking to community members, most of them farmers during a consultative meeting held at Muhokya town council headquarters this morning, Lt. Walunsimbi who said farmers on the scheme must get water, also ordered for the arrest for anybody who disrupts the operations of the irrigation scheme he said was established by government to improve food production for both commercial and domestic use. Ms Best Kambale Bakoko, the area town clerk had earlier reported that whereas the new executive committee had been elected earlier in 2021, it was commissioned this year over frictions caused by former leadership that has also petitioned court about what they call legal gaps in constituting the new executive. In his report on behalf of the Muhokya town council, Hon. Earnest Masereka, the Speaker said council had had an emergency sitting majorly to make budgetary adjustments to enable realization of about ten million shillings for the legal battle over the irrigation scheme. END
