Museveni agitates against land fragmentation

Museveni agitates against land fragmentation as he was addressing various stakeholders at the commissioning of the Mpondwe Boarder Export Zone Market and Mpondwe One stop Boarder post in Mpondwe Lhubiriha town council in Kasese district.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called for land inheritance by shares against land fragmentation as promoted by traditionalists.

The President said for the heirs to jointly agree on a particular activity on the inherited land, promotes production on large scale and minimizes conflicts among family members whose tension mainly result from boundary disagreements.

Mr. Mr. Museveni used the example of two heirs on a piece of land who do not only conflict over boundaries but animals on one side that cross to feed on crops of the other because of not agreeing as brothers on what activity to jointly carry of their inheritance.

President Museveni who was addressing various stakeholders at the commissioning of the Mpondwe Boarder Export Zone Market and Mpondwe One stop Boarder post in Mpondwe Lhubiriha town council in Kasese district said, he would continue promoting the Acre Model project he started in 1996 for improved commercial production against land fragmentation.

The Head of State who blames the former President for the DR Congo, Joseph Kabila for the massive creation of ADF bases in his country, appreciates his counterpart, Raisi Felix Tshisekedi for allowing home the UPDF operations against ADF rebel activities.

President Museveni’s response was in line with the brief speech by his State Minister for National guidance, Hon. Godfrey Kabyanga who commended him for his braveness to negotiate with his counterpart, President Tshisekedi of DR Congo for the UPDF deployment and the ongoing road construction that are giving a new face to the former Belgium colony.

Hon. Harriet Ntabazi, the State Minister for Trade asked the local traders to own and make good use of the new border market she described as a gift to the people of Kasese.

In his report, Mr. Erifaz Muhindi, Kasese district local council five chairperson called for the prioritization of building and elevating to a hospital status, Rukoki health four in Kasese Municipality.

He also asked the President to establish a seed fund to the vulnerable communities living near the stubborn rivers in the district, as well as expediting the dislting process.

At the market commissioning function yesterday, no MPs of the Opposition from Kasese district attended for reportedly being in their political party retreat.
