Notorious Butaleja witch doctor arrested in Oyam district

Renowned witch doctor Emmanuel Akiteng from Butaleja has been apprehended by police in Oyam district.

His arrest stems from allegations of involvement in the mysterious deaths of six individuals in Lamwo district.

The victims reportedly died after stealing 19 sacks of simsim from local residents, sparking witchcraft allegations.

According to Odong Francise Opyio, the officer in charge of operations in Oyam district, the victims’ families reported the matter to Lamwo Central Police Station, prompting a joint operation between Nwoya and Oyam police that led to Akiteng’s arrest.

Akiteng, originally from the Teso subregion, was found hiding in the ceiling of his house in Western ward, Loro town council, Oyam district.

Opyio credited Akiteng’s girlfriend for playing a crucial role in his arrest by leading police to his hideout.

Akiteng’s arrest has sent shockwaves throughout the region, with many believing he is responsible for the deaths of hundreds in Northern Uganda.

Sgt. Shilaku James, the Resident District Commissioner of Oyam, confirmed that Akiteng was handed over to Lamwo police and later transferred to Kira Police Headquarters in Kampala for further investigation.

Benson Walter Dilla Oyuku, the LC5 Chairperson of Oyam district, commended the police and security forces for apprehending the notorious witch doctor. He urged the complainants to pursue the case to ensure justice is served and cautioned Christians against believing in witchcraft, advising them to seek help from God instead.
