Oyam District Chairperson Benson Dilla Oyuku.

Dilla made this remark while addressing mourners at Yamiyon cell, Eastern Oyam town council, yesterday, 31 March 2025, during the burial of baby Jesse, son of Alwong George, popularly known as Alwong Blue Moon, the proprietor of Blue Moon Computer Centre.

In his address, Dilla stated that he would not take matters lightly this time. He emphasised that he remains the Oyam District Chairperson, a position he earned through votes rather than force. Dilla warned that anyone who insults him or his family will face direct retaliation.

He asserted that his role as LC5 Chairperson is not one to be disrespected, particularly as he also holds the esteemed title of Clan Chief (Awitong) within his clan.

On the topic of education, Dilla urged the community of Oyam to stop blaming leaders like him for their children’s academic failures.

He emphasised that passing exams is not solely the responsibility of teachers or politicians. Instead, he encouraged parents to take accountability for their children’s performance and provide them with greater support.

Meanwhile, the Clan Chief of Lwa Tonara, Sam Odongo, called on the Lango community and various stakeholders to unite and work together to drive development in the region. He cited a Lango proverb that states, “One hand alone cannot accomplish anything significant.”

In his sermon, Reverend Robert Edinga, the Archdeacon of Oyam Urban Archdeaconry, reminded the community that those who love money will never have enough, and those who love wealth will never be satisfied with their income.

He urged the people of Oyam to prioritise their relationship with the church over the pursuit of wealth and money, as God does not favour materialism.
