Patrick Ogwang Obia, a senior member of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) and former LC3 and LC5 councillor for Chawente Sub county, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of LC5 Chairperson for Kwania District.
On Monday, Ogwang collected his Expression of Interest form from the UPC Electoral Commission offices in Kampala and was officially nominated—marking a significant step in his bid to secure the party’s flag in the upcoming primaries.
With a spotless record and decades of experience in local leadership, Ogwang is widely respected for his integrity, accountability, and commitment to transparent governance. His leadership has been described by many as “clean-handed and people-centred,” earning admiration from voters across the district.
He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the UPC leadership for maintaining a structured and transparent nomination process, noting that the high number of contenders reflects a vibrant and democratic party culture.
Ogwang emphasised his focus on inclusive service delivery—championing the needs of marginalised groups such as youth, women, elders, veterans, teachers, and catechists. He also highlighted his proven track record of initiating impactful livelihood projects across Kwania District, stressing that true leadership is measured by action, not promises.
He joins a number of aspirants vying for the UPC flag in the upcoming primaries for various elective positions. Yet, his supporters—especially in Chawente Sub-county, Atongtidi, Aduku, Abongomola, and Inomo—have voiced strong support for his candidacy, praising his kindness, honesty, and developmental track record. Many say they are ready to vote solely for Ogwang, expressing confidence in his ability to bring about meaningful change.
With a clear vision for unity, peace, and development—“Tela kan aler me kelo kuc, note kede dongo Kwania”—Ogwang believes he is well-positioned to represent the people for the next five years and beyond.
The UPC primaries are expected to draw significant attention in Kwania, a district considered politically strategic within the Lango sub-region.
