Dr Richard Monday Odongo, a parliamentary aspirant for Oyam South, has urged Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) supporters and delegates to embrace all candidates under the party banner without discrimination while addressing them today, 23rd July 2025. He emphasised the importance of unity and cooperation within the party.
During his campaign visit to UPC supporters and voters in parishes across Loro Sub-county and Town Council—including Adigo, Opelere, Alutkot, Alidi, Acan-Pii, and Agulurude—Dr Odongo called on UPC delegates to welcome all aspirants equally. He described all candidates under the UPC banner as “children of the same household,” urging voters to show love and solidarity whenever any aspirant campaigns.
Dr Odongo also shared his vision for the development of Oyam South Constituency, which includes enhancing education from primary to secondary level with a new focus on quality and accessibility; strengthening household incomes through the formation and support of cooperative SACCOs; lobbying for improved health services, particularly upgrading general hospitals—leveraging his expertise as a health specialist; and boosting agricultural productivity by effectively utilising the Constituency Development Fund in consultation with voters.
He pledged to uphold the UPC party legacy, stating that if another candidate is selected to carry the party flag, he would step down respectfully and support them fully.
His remarks were warmly received by UPC Regional Chairman Christ Ongom, who is also vying for the LC5 UPC flag bearer position in Oyam District. Ongom praised Odongo’s grassroots campaigning and urged other aspirants to continue their outreach, describing his own campaign as “a pregnant woman ready to deliver anytime.”
UPC Loro Sub county Chairperson John Bosco Bolong commended Dr Odongo’s approach, saying he would never discriminate against any UPC aspirant wishing to address voters. He likened his leadership role to that of a father and lauded Odongo for providing office files and party uniforms across all parishes to strengthen party identity.
Imat Mary Ayoo, an elderly woman from Alidi Parish, blessed Dr Odongo’s parliamentary bid. She urged him to be a voice for women, youth, and the elderly, particularly calling for equitable access to government programmes that benefit senior citizens.
