Nelson Oloa, a UPC aspirant for the Oyam District LC5 Chairperson seat, has pledged to unite all UPC supporters and leaders if elected to carry the party flag and lead the district.

While campaigning yesterday in Otwal and Aleka Sub counties, Oloa vowed to bring together divided party members and restore UPC’s former glory in Oyam District, aiming to “paint Oyam red” with the party’s colours.

In both sub counties, he urged UPC delegates and the wider Oyam community to vote for leaders with a proven track record of serving the people. He cited his own commitment to education, revealing that he currently sponsors 110 pupils in various schools across Uganda.

Oloa stressed the importance of respecting voters, saying, “Voters are wise enough—with PhDs—to either elect or reject politicians.” He promised to prioritise local contractors from Oyam for district projects, noting that many skilled youth have been overlooked by the current administration.

He called on UPC delegates to vote for him as the only candidate who is truly independent and not backed by other politicians or businessmen with hidden agendas. Oloa criticised rival candidates whom he claimed were being used by external forces to pursue private agreements under the guise of development.

Concluding his speech, Oloa urged the people of Oyam to embrace a change in leadership, promising a corruption-free administration—particularly in job recruitment. He condemned the practice of demanding bribes for employment opportunities and criticised leaders who misuse government vehicles for personal errands in Lira City, leaving Oyam underserved.

Tom Ekol, UPC Chairperson for Aleka Sub-county, urged delegates to support a strong candidate capable of winning and upholding the party’s legacy in the district. Meanwhile, Richard Ogwal Roa, UPC Chairperson for Otwal, declared that the UPC is ready to reclaim district leadership, citing growing dissatisfaction with the current regime.

Hannah Ekol, an LC5 Council aspirant for Otwal and Aleka, called for a peaceful election and unity among all UPC aspirants—Nelson Oloa, Christ Ongom, and Nelson Adea Akar—as they vie for the party flag ahead of the 2026–2031 general elections.

Senior UPC cadre Emmanuel Odongo, popularly known as Odongo Otwal, urged the other candidates to step down in favour of Nelson Oloa, praising him as kind-hearted and visionary. He appealed to delegates not to waste their votes on candidates with questionable integrity.

Former Lira City Mayor Mike Ogwang Olwa Vebe, who is also contesting the mayoral seat under the UPC ticket, expressed confidence in the party’s ability to deliver when elected. He encouraged Oyam residents to vote for both Nelson Oloa and Jimmy Michael Akena Obote for Uganda’s presidency.

The UPC flag bearer for Oyam District LC5 Chairperson will be chosen on 9 August 2025 from among three aspirants: Nelson Oloa, Nelson Adea Akar, and Christ Ongom.
