Fourteen councillors in Oyam Town Council have received bicycles to boost their mobility and strengthen oversight of government programs. The initiative, funded through locally generated revenue, is aimed at improving service delivery and deepening community engagement across the council’s jurisdiction.

During the handover ceremony, Town Clerk Vicky Apio emphasized that the bicycles were procured using local revenue and are strictly meant to facilitate council work—not for personal use. She urged councillors to use them effectively in monitoring government programs and warned against selling them.

LC3 Chairperson Stephanie Okello Marioshoni highlighted the importance of equipping leaders with tools that enable them to reach their constituents more efficiently. He called on councillors to use the bicycles for council duties, revenue mobilization, and monitoring programs such as UWEP, PDM, Youth Livelihood, and the Lango War Claim Program.

Deputy Speaker Denish Owiny Okak expressed gratitude for the support, promising to use the bicycle to engage with voters and monitor government initiatives in his area. He pledged to keep his constituents informed about the current status of the town council.

Paska Abura, LC3 Councillor for Eastern Ward, thanked the Town Clerk and Mayor for their efforts, noting that in her 15 years of service, this was the first time such a development had been extended to councillors. She committed to using the bicycle to monitor programs and attend council meetings promptly to contribute to the development of Oyam Town Council.

Morish Okwera Owiny, Area Councillor for Eastern Ward, also appreciated the technical staff led by the Town Clerk, promising to put the bicycle to good use for the betterment of the town council.

The bicycles symbolize a renewed commitment to grassroots leadership, transparency, and accountability. As councillors pedal forward, the town council anticipates a more connected and responsive local government.
