The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Oyam, Sgt. Shilako James, has urged Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leaders, who have pledged support for President Yoweri Museveni, to remain firm and campaign wholeheartedly for his re-election.
The appeal was made during a high-level meeting at Oyam Guest House Annex in Oyam Town Council, attended by UPC and FDC leaders led by Christ Ongom, the former UPC regional vice chairperson for Lango. The group, previously aligned with the opposition, has now taken the lead in championing President Museveni’s presidential bid in the Lango Sub-region.
In his remarks, Sgt. Shilako emphasised that rallying behind President Museveni would strengthen unity of purpose across political divides. He noted that while leaders may support different candidates for local council and parliamentary seats, they should remain united at the presidential level to ensure continuity of peace and development under Museveni’s leadership.
Christ Ongom, the former UPC regional vice chairperson who now chairs the presidential campaign team for UPC and FDC members, explained that UPC leaders resolved to support Museveni because the party does not have a presidential candidate for the 2026 and 2031 elections. He urged the people of Oyam and the wider Lango Sub-region to vote for Museveni so that he can deliver on pledges made in past campaigns, including the creation of Aber District, tarmacking of the Loro–Oyam Town Council to Bobi Road, tarmacking of Corner Molem–Bobi Road and Dokolo–Namusale Road, and compensation for cattle lost during previous conflicts.
Brian Oguti, FDC chairperson in Oyam District, also encouraged FDC supporters to vote for Museveni despite their party’s candidate, Nathan Nandala Mafabi. He stressed that Museveni’s leadership has safeguarded peace and stability, which must be protected. However, he advised supporters to freely choose candidates of their preference for local and parliamentary positions.
Geoffery Alex Ogwal Adyebo, District Chairman of Kwania and General Secretary of the UPC–FDC campaign team for Museveni, presented six resolutions passed during the meeting attended by over 60 top leaders. These included campaigning vigorously for Museveni in the Lango Sub-region, supporting candidates of choice at local and parliamentary levels, ensuring security for UPC and FDC leaders and supporters, allocating resources to strengthen UPC structures, creating Aber District and constructing a skilling hub in Oyam for vulnerable youth, and continuing the fencing of the park area in Myene Sub-county.
Other leaders who pledged their support for Museveni included Kamata Aporo, FDC chairman of Oyam North; Isaac Ojok Orukobade, former UPC chairperson for Oyam North Constituency; and Hannah Odongo, female councillor of Aramita in Ngai Sub-county. They expressed confidence in Museveni’s leadership and urged the people of Lango to vote for him in 2026.
