The campaign trail for Oyam District Woman Member of Parliament and UPC flag bearer for the 2026–2031 general elections, Hon Santa Alum Ogwang, turned into a moving display of gratitude and appreciation on Tuesday as she received overwhelming praise from voters in Iceme Sub county.

During the rally, UPC leaders pledged to protect their votes until the very last day. Simon Peter Oola, UPC Chairperson for Oyam South Constituency, emphasised that the party is prepared to safeguard the will of the people, warning that anyone attempting to interfere with the election process would face consequences.

Nicholas Opio Awelo, LC3 Chairperson of Iceme Sub county, urged residents to cast their votes for Hon Alum Santa Ogwang and assist in protecting her mandate. He praised her for rehabilitating roads in Iceme, noting that her work is visible and deserving of recognition.

Brian Oguti, FDC Chairperson in Oyam District, cautioned residents against providing their National Identity Card numbers to unknown groups reportedly collecting them in the district. He stressed that such actions are illegal and vowed to pursue legal action if citizens’ rights are violated.

Chris Ongom, political assistant to Hon Alum Santa Ogwang, described her as a champion among women MPs across Uganda, recognising her achievements in Parliament. He explained that her campaign had paused for a week while she was in Kampala overseeing the East Africa Parliamentary Games.

In her speech, Hon Alum Santa Ogwang highlighted her contributions across Iceme parishes, including donations to VSLA groups, support for youth football, and the construction and roofing of churches. She pledged to rehabilitate more roads and extend electricity to villages if re-elected.

Her impact was further underscored by testimonies from beneficiaries. Apwot Linda of Aceke Leye Village and Abeja Paska of Abongo Awobi Village, among eleven students whose school fees are paid by Hon Alum at Iceme Town Seed Secondary School, expressed gratitude for her support, saying they would not have been able to continue their studies without her assistance.

The campaign also featured symbolic gifts of appreciation. Two Senior One students presented their academic reports to Hon Alum Santa Ogwang, thanking her for sponsoring their education. A young child offered her a chicken in gratitude for a school uniform she had provided, while members of the Church of Uganda in St Mark Angom Parish presented her with a goat to thank her for supporting their church construction.

Addressing the crowds, Hon Alum Santa Ogwang confidently described herself as the best MP in Uganda in terms of service delivery. She urged constituents to return her to Parliament, citing her strong record of community support and her decisive stance in passing the Anti-Homosexuality Bill as evidence of her commitment to representing Oyam’s values.
