Three in custody for lynching mobile phone thief

Police in Lamwo district have detained three individuals for lynching a suspected mobile phone thief in Pawena village, Palabek Abera sub county.

The deceased, identified as Nyeko Alfred, a resident of Pawena village in Palabek Abera sub county, Lamwo district, allegedly stole two mobile phones from the same area.

It is reported that on 11th March 2025, angry residents administered ten strokes of the cane on Nyeko outside his father’s home until he fell unconscious. He was then rushed to the Health Centre but was later pronounced dead.

Police have since detained the LCI Chairperson, Mr. Jimmy Komakech, the deceased’s father, Mr. Ken Ocan, and Mr. Richard Odokonyero.

IP Joe Oloya, the Aswa East Regional Police Spokesperson, stated that others believed to have been involved in the mob action are still at large and urged them to report to the nearest police unit to provide statements.

Oloya confirmed that the trio will be produced in court soon to face charges of murder once their files are ready. He called upon the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
