Kitgum mob lynches suspected motorcycle thief

A suspected motorcycle thief was on Wednesday lynched by an irate mob in Pandowng cell, Pandwong division, Kitgum municipality.

According to the report obtained by our reporter the suspect was trying to escape through the road leading to Bipong in Labogo Amid West subcounty but after an alarm was sounded by vigilant residents, a mob gained momentum and started beating him resulting into his death at the scene.

He was identified as Aminy Ambroze, 20, a resident of Ngai village, Akuci parish in Oyam district. His colleague who was only identified as Opio is on the run. The stolen motorcycle, registration number UFD 506P belongs to Canwat Richard, a resident of Kitgum municipality.

The Kitgum District Police Commander, SP Peter Oyesigye confirmed the incident and said the body was taken to Kitgum government hospital for postmortem. He appeals to the community to avoid taking the law in to their hands but allow the security personnel to do their job.

The incident brings the number of murders by mob action to two in Kitgum municipality in less than one week after a suspected chicken thief was lynched on Saturday April 5th, from Ginnery West cell, Guu A ward.
