ADRA & RHU Launch Shs1 Billion Climate-Resilience Project in kitgum

ADRA Uganda and Reproductive Health Uganda (RHU) have jointly launched the STRENGTH Project 2025–2027, valued at Shs1 billion, targeting areas where the two organizations have not previously operated in Northern Uganda.

The two-and-a-half-year project will be implemented in Kitgum District (Orom Sub-county), Lamwo District (Palabek Ogili), Karenga District (Lobalagit Sub-county), and Kaabong District (Katsile Sub-county).

The initiative is designed to address conflict hotspots and high-potential production zones affected by both climate change and cross-border conflicts. Special attention will be given to border communities near South Sudan, including refugee settlements and their immediate host communities.

Key objectives of the project include strengthening community capacity to practice sustainable, climate-sensitive agriculture in order to minimize the negative impacts of climate-induced shocks and stressors. The project aims to build climate-smart livelihoods, promote holistic natural resource management, and ensure conflict-sensitive implementation.

Particular focus will be placed on women, who are disproportionately affected by climate change and conflict. The project will work to enhance their access to information, basic services, and participation in decision-making processes helping to avert or reduce loss and damage in these vulnerable communities.

Speaking during an inception meeting with Kitgum District leaders, Mr. Kibem George William, Program Manager and Country Officer for ADRA Uganda, emphasized the importance of local coordination and community involvement.

The Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Kitgum, Haji Walire Marijan, urged staff from ADRA and RHU to maintain professionalism and transparency in their service delivery.
