A police officer attached to the State Minister for Relief, Disaster and Refugees, Hon. Lillian Aber, was injured in a road accident along the Kitgum–Lira highway. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, at around 4:05 am, in Pandwong Ward, Kitgum Municipality.
According to police reports issued by Inspector of Police Oloya Joe, the Regional Community Liaison Officer and spokesperson for the Aswa East Region, Police Constable Oluma Denis, who is attached to the VIP Protection Unit, was driving a white Nissan double-cabin vehicle with registration number UG 1010Z when he lost control and crashed into an electric pole. At the time of the accident, he was en route to the minister’s residence in Alango East.
Police suspect that over-speeding was the cause of the accident. The officer was rushed to Kitgum General Hospital for treatment, while the vehicle was towed to Kitgum Central Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.
Oloya added that the scene was visited by traffic police officers, and investigations are ongoing.
