he Kitgum District Chairperson, Mr. Arwai Christopher Obol, has appealed to residents to maintain peace during the forthcoming primary elections and next year’s general elections.
Speaking during his weekly talk hour on TEMBO FM on Tuesday morning, Mr. Arwai cited cases of election violence in other parts of the country, where campaigns have turned deadly, leading to the loss of lives, serious injuries, destruction of property, and suspension of electoral activities.
He commended Kitgum residents for being peaceful in past elections and urged them to continue upholding this reputation by listening to all candidates’ manifestos and making wise choices on polling day.
Mr. Arwai also warned against the growing practice of luring voters with money, alcohol, salt, soap, and other petty items during campaigns. He stressed that such acts only influence voters into making choices they may regret for the next five years. He further reminded the electorate that leadership is about trust, vision, and service, not short-term handouts.
As political temperatures rise ahead of party primaries and the 2026 general elections, stakeholders in Kitgum continue to call for issue-based campaigns and mature politics to avoid divisions within communities.
