President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has announced plans to recruit more than 4,000 teachers in the next government after the 2026 general elections.

Speaking during a presidential rally for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) at Kitgum District Farm Institute on Thursday, President Museveni said the recruitment drive aims to address the challenge of inadequate teaching staff in Uganda’s education sector.

“I want to recruit more teachers to reduce complaints about the shortage of teaching staff and to strengthen the education department,” the President said.

Museveni further urged Ugandans to prioritize key national activities rather than expecting the government to handle everything at once, noting that spreading efforts too widely can affect the quality of work.

He called on Ugandans, especially the people of Kitgum, to focus on four key areas — education, peace, wealth creation, and development. He emphasized that achieving these goals requires a change in mindset and a collective commitment to building the country.

The President also directed the Permanent Secretary to the President to record pledges that were brought to his attention by the NRM Kitgum District Chairperson, Hon. Lapyem Emmanuel, and Minister Henry Okello Oryem.
