A total of 32 mothers who gave birth on 1 December in Palabek County received financial support on Wednesday from Hon. Odongkara Geoffrey Obalim, an aspiring Member of Parliament for Lamwo County. Each mother received UGX 50,000, while those who experienced complications during childbirth were given UGX 70,000.

The programme was launched at Palabek Ogili Sub county in Lamwo District. Speaking at the event, Hon. Odongkara, the LC5 Councillor for Ogili Sub county, thanked the aspirant for his initiative, describing it as the first programme of its kind implemented by a leader in Lamwo District. He urged mothers to use the money wisely to meet their households’ basic needs, particularly food and medical care.

Ms Akello Betty, former Councillor III of Palabek Gem Sub county, called on women to be supportive and respectful towards their husbands. She emphasised the importance of mutual understanding in families, including fulfilling marital responsibilities to support population growth in Palabek County.

She also urged families to avoid gender-based violence, encouraging men to care for their wives during pregnancy, labour, and child-rearing.

Hon. Odongkara Geoffrey Obalim, also known as Pii Maleng, announced that the support initiative will be conducted weekly, with his team visiting all health facilities in Palabek County to register mothers who have recently given birth.

He stated that the programme will continue until the January elections and, if elected, he plans to expand it into a long-term project over the next five years in Parliament. He further pledged to begin paying school fees for one primary learner from each household up to university level starting next year.

Hon. Odongkara urged voters to reject politics of hatred and violence and instead support leaders with a clear vision for the development of Palabek County.
