Hon. Lamwaka Mangret Odwar, an aspirant for Woman Member of Parliament for Kitgum District and Member of Parliament for Chua East Constituency, was not detained after appearing before police at Kitgum Central Police Station on Friday following allegations of inciting violence.
Hon. Lamwaka, together with three members of her campaign team, had been summoned by police on 23rd December 2025 over allegations of incitement to violence. The summons also mentioned allegations of attempted murder involving her campaign team, including her chief campaign manager, Mr. Tonny Omal.
Upon appearing at the police station, Hon. Lamwaka recorded a statement denying the allegations. After writing their statements, she and her colleague, Catherine Atto, were released and later returned home without being detained.
According to Hon. Lamwaka, while she and Catherine Atto responded to the police summons, two members of her campaign team are yet to report to police. These include Mr. Tonny Omal, her chief campaign manager. She stated that the remaining team members will respond to the summons accordingly.
Hon. Lamwaka explained that the incident in question, which occurred in Omiya Nyima Sub-county, involved alleged intimidation of her supporters by Mr. Okot Fred Kamao. She claimed that Mr. Kamao was taking photos and videos of her supporters without consent, which she described as cyber-related misconduct. She added that the situation may have escalated when her supporters reacted to his actions.
She appealed to the community to maintain peace, unity, and calm during the ongoing election period and urged political actors to avoid hatred and violence.
Kitgum District Police Commander, Mr. Peter Oyesigye, confirmed that Hon. Lamwaka responded to the police summons following her request to attend to other engagements earlier in the week. He noted that police will continue to communicate with her whenever her presence is required.
Mr. Oyesigye also emphasized that the summons issued to the other individuals remain valid and encouraged those who have not yet reported to police to do so as required.
