Preparations at the local level are intensifying in Kitgum and Mucwini as communities prepare to receive more than 400 pilgrims trekking for the St Janani Luwum commemoration.

The Local Organising Committee said cultural groups are rehearsing traditional dances, including Bwola, to welcome the pilgrims on arrival. Local committees are also coordinating sanitation, accommodation, and security, as thousands of visitors are expected for the annual event.

Program head and acting Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee, Mr Okot P’Bitek, said preachers have already been deployed across archdeaconries, while volunteers continue preparations along the route.

The 49th anniversary of Archbishop Janani Luwum Day will be observed under the theme “Anchored in Christ for Stability, Peace and Unity”. This annual public holiday honours the legacy of the martyred Archbishop of the Church of Uganda.
