Kitgum District has commissioned a 26.98-kilometre rehabilitated community access road under the National Oil Seed Project.

The Ogul–Pii–Peke Abunai road in Namokora North Sub-county, valued at 2.1 billion shillings, was completed last November by Abayo Foundation Stores Limited.

Mr. David Lokolomoi, Director of Abayo Foundation, says the works were completed on time despite insecurity challenges, which required hiring UPDF personnel to guard workers.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Wokorach Michael from the CAO’s office encouraged farmers to embrace group farming and urged communities to protect the road from misuse, such as dragging ox-ploughs.

Kitgum LC5 Chairperson, Mr. Arawi Christopher Obol, called on farmers to fully utilize the improved road to boost production of soya beans, groundnuts, beans, and simsim, noting that higher yields could attract more development projects. He also announced plans to extend water services and build a health facility in Lipan.

Kitgum Deputy RDC, Mr. Komakech Walter Oyo, emphasized that the road aims to improve accessibility, increase oil seed production, and strengthen agricultural productivity. He urged residents to responsibly use and maintain government projects.
