Security authorities in Kitgum District have heightened vigilance ahead of the upcoming FUFA Drum match between Acholi Province and Busoga Province scheduled for this Saturday, March 21st, at Kitgum Boma Grounds.
The Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Geoffrey Oguti, has warned that intelligence reports indicate suspected criminals have already entered Kitgum Municipality, with some reportedly lodging in local facilities as they plan activities over the weekend.
Oguti told Tembo FM on Wednesday that cases of theft targeting mobile money operators, businesses, and members of the public have already been reported.
He has called on residents to remain vigilant and work closely with security agencies by sharing any information that could lead to the arrest of suspects, warning that the football event should not turn into a security risk for the community.
He also cautioned the public against reckless behavior, including dangerous road use and public misconduct, during the match period.
Despite the concerns, Oguti reassured residents that security personnel are on high alert and fully prepared to ensure safety throughout the event.
