Walter Benson Dila Oyuku has secured the NRM party flag as the official candidate for the Oyam District LC5 Chairperson seat in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
The announcement was made yesterday following a successful party primary in which Dila triumphed with a commanding 58,731 votes, representing 73% of the total. His closest contender, Patrick Ogwal Ojok, received 15,811 votes, while Emmanuel Oyite came third with 6,399 votes.
In his post-election address, Dila expressed deep gratitude to the NRM delegates who voted to retain him as the party’s flag bearer. He humbly attributed his victory not to personal strength, but to the grace of God. He also extended an olive branch to his fellow aspirants, urging them to unite and campaign together as one family under the NRM banner.
Dila called on his colleagues to set aside resentment and praised all political parties that participated in the joint campaign efforts. He appealed to voters across all parties to support his bid in the general elections, promising continued development for Oyam. He also encouraged newly elected leaders at sub-county level to collaborate at district level and to campaign with love, unity, and respectful language that fosters harmony within their communities.
In his closing remarks, Dila thanked the press for positive coverage and recognition of his leadership. He urged politicians to treat media professionals with respect, acknowledging the vital role the press plays in bridging parties and promoting unity. He described the overwhelming support as a demonstration of the people’s love—especially from NRM delegates—and called on them to remain steadfast as they prepare for the 2026 polls.
Meanwhile, fellow aspirant Emmanuel Oyite accepted the results gracefully and pledged his full support to Hon. Dila Benson. Though unsuccessful, he vowed to continue advocating for quality education, improved roads, healthcare, and household income for the betterment of Oyam.
Attempts to hear from Patrick Ogwal Ojok regarding whether he accepted the results—since he was absent during the declaration—were unsuccessful.
District Registrar Jackylin Adong commended all participants for a peaceful and fair election. She advised any aggrieved aspirant to seek redress through the NRM Electoral Commission, chaired by Dr Tanga Odoi. She congratulated the winner and urged others to support their colleagues for the sake of unity and progress.
