Daniel Oyat , popularly known as Daniel Ego, a seasoned journalist and former speaker of Abok subcounty (2016–2021), has officially picked nomination forms to contest for the position of LC3 Chairperson under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
Oyat joins several aspirants across Oyam district who have expressed interest in contesting the upcoming NRM primaries for various elective positions. With a strong political background and decades of leadership experience, he believes he is well-positioned to represent the people of Abok for the next five years, pledging transparent leadership, unity, peace, and development.
Voters in Abok subcounty have warmly welcomed his decision to stand, citing his previous term as Speaker and his reputation for kind-hearted, accountable leadership. Many residents say they will support no other candidate, praising his contributions to property development and transparency during his tenure.
In an interview with our reporter after picking his nomination forms at the NRM office, Ego reaffirmed his commitment to delivering clear accountability and meaningful development. He expressed his intention to challenge what he calls “weak and jealous leadership” under the current regime and outlined his agenda, which includes advocating for improve roads, healthcare, education, and securing fair market prices for farmers.
Oyat also called on delegates from various parishes across Abok subcounty to rally behind his vision of good governance. He assured the public that if he does not succeed in the race, he will support whichever candidate emerges victorious—provided the elections are free, fair, and democratic.
In addition to fighting corruption in the sub-county—a problem that began under the current regime and has led to poor development—he described the situation as an abuse of voters’ rights.
He also pledged to reform the leadership in Abok by bringing together diverse leaders through transparent and inclusive governance, addressing the shortcomings of the current administration, which he criticised for favoring friends and family over the broader Abok community.
His candidacy has intensified pressure on incumbent LC3 Chairperson Phillip Ogile, with observers noting Oyat clear vision and rising popularity as a major challenge. Three other candidates are also eyeing the NRM flag currently held by Phillips Jakayo Ogile.
A teacher by profession and respected media personality, Oyat currently anchors news and hosts talk shows on Shine FM Oyam. He previously served as an English news anchor for many years on the former Karamoja FM in Moroto district. His strong communication skills and connection to communities across the Lango subregion position him as a capable advocate for development at higher leadership levels.
