Daniel Oyat, popularly known as Daniel Ego, a seasoned journalist and former Speaker of Abok Sub county (2016–2021), has officially picked up nomination forms to contest for the position of LCIII Chairperson under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

Oyat joins a growing list of aspirants across Oyam District who have expressed interest in contesting the upcoming NRM primaries for various elective positions. With a solid political background and decades of leadership experience, he believes he is well-positioned to represent the people of Abok for the next five years. He has pledged transparent leadership, unity, peace, and development.

Voters in Abok Sub-county have warmly welcomed his decision to stand, citing his previous term as Speaker and his reputation for kind-hearted and accountable leadership. Many residents have expressed their unwavering support for Oyat, praising his contributions to property development and transparency during his tenure.

In an interview with our reporter after picking his nomination forms at the NRM office, Ego reaffirmed his commitment to delivering clear accountability and tangible development. He expressed his intention to challenge what he described as “weak and jealous leadership” under the current regime. His agenda includes advocating for improved roads, better healthcare and education services, and fair market prices for farmers.

Oyat also urged delegates from various parishes across Abok Sub-county to rally behind his vision of good governance. He assured the public that, should he not succeed in the race, he would support whichever candidate emerges victorious—provided the elections are free, fair, and democratic.

He further pledged to combat corruption in the sub-county, which he claims has increased under the current administration, describing the situation as a violation of voters’ rights. He vowed to reform the leadership in Abok by uniting diverse leaders through transparent and inclusive governance, addressing what he criticised as favouritism towards friends and family at the expense of the broader community.

His candidacy has intensified pressure on incumbent LCIII Chairperson Phillip Ogile, with observers noting Oyat’s clear vision and growing popularity as a serious challenge. Three other candidates are also eyeing the NRM flag currently held by Phillips Jakayo Ogile.

A teacher by profession and a respected media personality, Oyat currently anchors news and hosts talk shows on Shine FM Oyam. He previously served as an English news anchor for many years at the former Karamoja FM in Moroto District. His strong communication skills and deep connection with communities across the Lango sub-region position him as a capable advocate for development at higher leadership levels.
