Investigation has revealed that there is no fight against the NRM party in Oyam District. Instead, the conflict is a personal attack directed at the NRM Chairperson Oyam, Bosco Onyik Ogwal, by individuals allegedly sponsored by a former NRM candidate during the recently concluded general election.
Party supporters in Oyam District told our reporter yesterday that internal fighting is harmful to the party, especially since elections are over. They urged the conflicting team to join hands in developing Oyam rather than allowing themselves to be misled into actions that weaken the party.
Speaking to our reporter, Chairperson Bosco Onyik emphasized that the fight is not against the NRM party but against him personally. He dismissed allegations from former NRM candidate Jane France Acilo, who claimed that Onyik misused party funds, contributed to her defeat, and diverted money to the UPC party. Onyik described these accusations as false and malicious.
He further explained that the NRM coordination office in Oyam remains open and accessible to anyone seeking services. Highlighting achievements under his leadership, Onyik proudly noted that for the first time in forty years, Oyam South has an NRM Member of Parliament. He also pointed out that Oyam District gave President Museveni the highest number of votes compared to other districts in northern and eastern Uganda.
Onyik concluded by warning those fueling conflict to stop, stressing that their actions could disrupt the upcoming LC1 and LC2 elections, which is unacceptable.
Meanwhile, Atim Ronald, a supporter from Atek Ober Parish in Acaba Sub County, urged all party members to focus on development rather than fighting against the chairperson. He advised those who lost in the recent election to remain patient and avoid promoting division, adding that reports suggest Jane France Acilo is behind the current conflict.
On Monday, while speaking to our Reporter at shine fm oyam during current affairs program locally known as Mia Anyang, Patrick Ogwang Obura called on the NRM fraternity in Oyam to unite and work together for the district’s development, warning that fighting only disrupts progress.
In a recent meeting with party veterans, RDC Oyam Sgt. Shilako James also appealed to the conflicting team to embrace reconciliation as a key tool for development in Oyam District.
