After enduring two years without access to clean water and resorting to drinking from open “dums” shared with animals, the community of Wayi central can now celebrate the restoration of their borehole
According to Ms. Alice, the Chairperson of the Water Committee in Wayi central, the borehole serves over 30 households and 130 community members. She noted that during the breakdown, residents were forced to share unsafe water sources with animals, leading to serious health concerns.
Ms. Apwonyo Alice also mentioned that neighboring villages from Pader like OJalo and Alero village used to fetch water from the Wayi cenral borehole. However, since the breakdown, both communities have suffered from the lack of clean water. Despite repeated reports to the sub-county authorities, no action had been taken until Hon. Adum intervened.
Hon. Oryema Simon Peter Adum has made significant contributions to water access in the region. Over the past two years, he has supported the repair of 360 boreholes across the Greater Chua West Constituency, improving access to safe water for thousands.
Breakdown of borehole repairs supported by Hon. Adum: Amida West Sub-county – 22 boreholes ,Amida Main – 14 boreholes, Akwang Sub-county – 13 boreholes, Kitgum Matidi Town Council – 8 boreholes, Layamo Sub-county – 15 boreholes, Lagoro Sub-county – 2 boreholes, Lalano Sub-county – 10 boreholes, Kitgum Matidi Sub-county – 6 boreholes
The restoration of the Wayi central borehole marks a critical improvement in the community’s well-being, and residents are hopeful that authorities will respond more swiftly in the future when vital infrastructure breaks down.
